Posted on 08/31/2023

VALLEJO, CA - On August 30, 2023, at approximately 5:35 PM, officers located a Toyota Avalon in the area of Tennessee Street and Tuolumne Street. This vehicle matched the description of a vehicle used more than once in recent armed robberies in Vallejo. As the officers approached the vehicle, it began driving away at a high rate of speed while ignoring traffic signal lights and stop signs. A vehicle pursuit was initiated, but officers lost sight of the speeding vehicle as it was traveling eastbound in the 3300 block of Tennessee Street. The vehicle pursuit was terminated at that time.

Approximately 30 seconds later, while conducting an area check for the suspect vehicle, another police unit observed the vehicle traveling westbound on Springs Road near Mosswood Avenue at a high rate of speed while weaving in and out of traffic. By the time officers were able to safely make a U-turn, the suspect vehicle was several blocks ahead of them. Immediately after the officers began to drive westbound on Springs Road they saw a large amount of debris and dust in the distance near the area of Springs Road and Tregaskis Avenue.

Officers arrived at the collision site approximately 15 seconds later where they discovered the Toyota Avalon had collided with two other vehicles. The driver of one of the uninvolved vehicles sustained life-threatening injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

Immediately after the traffic collision, the driver of the Toyota Avalon fled on foot from the vehicle and eluded capture. Investigating officers located a loaded firearm in the Toyota Avalon and are working to identify the driver in this case. A female passenger in the Toyota Avalon was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The decedent's name is being withheld pending notification of family members by the Solano County Coroner’s Office.
